      Disposition:

    • ALOOF — Dettlaff prefers to stay out of the spotlight, keeping to himself in the midst of society even if he does make some effort to blend in. Though he makes friends with humans—and even a lover, in one case—he does not go out of his way to be particularly extroverted. Though more comfortable with those he trusts, he is less likely to start a conversation with a complete stranger.

    • SENSITIVE — Dettlaff experiences emotions quite deeply, in a way that’s best described as unfiltered and without subtlety in regards to the context of the situation surrounding him. This lends to an impulsivity, too, where he often acts upon these feelings with the same intensity in which he feels them. It also means that a simple act of kindness will win a measure of loyalty from the vampire; it also means that a betrayal will sting the harshest, and will very unlikely be forgiven.

    • ”MALADJUSTED” — As Geralt calls him. Dettlaff does not completely understand the subtleties behind human interactions, decisions, and morality. To him—and as being a part of a vampire hierarchy/society that is far more cut-and-dry—it is far simpler to judge a man through their words and actions. He does not understand wholly if there is a greater meaning behind duplicity or moral ambiguity, though he had been taking steps to learn before his grand betrayal in the game. He cannot see easily in shades of black and white without someone taking the time to truly guide him through it, and it takes much for him to stay his hand once he feels wronged. One might say he has a bit of a temper, or is highly impulsive, as a result of this mindset.

    • GENERALLY A GOOD PERSON — However, if left to his own devices with nothing to test his patience or take advantage of him, Dettlaff is actually a fairly decent individual. He keeps to himself, but he shows that he cares for those who show him some measure of kindness. He’s good with his hands and repairing objects, so he chooses to repair toys and odds and ends for those who would need his services in the Duchy. Regis even refers to him as a good man, running a comparison against Dettlaff and Geralt, saying that though both men do not go out of their way to show it, they are both good people at their core.

      Suitability:

Dettlaff comes from a fairly mature canon, where moral ambiguity and choices with consequences reign supreme. Tonally, he is suited to situations that are skew towards any manner of thematic exploration — however, individually, I would like to explore Detalff’s growth as a character, in which he potentially learns to understands the emotional complexity of humans better, and even display them himself. I think a large setting, with multiple characters hailing from multiple worlds, might be the best shot at doing this for him. Not to mention that he needs to get over his heartbreak from canon, and forming an array of friendships and connections here is the best way to go about it.

Condition upon arrival: He died in canon, but will be arriving in Noctium whole and hale... if a bit worn out.

      Abilities:

    • VAMPIRE PHYSIOLOGY — Super strength and speed applies. He may wound as easily as a human (cut him and you will wound him, etc), but being a higher vampire, he is able to regenerate from literally any kind of fatal injury. It may simply take a very long time, depending on how bad it is. But he is immortal in every way, unless killed by a fellow Higher Vampire. (And in the case of Noctium, if he turns into a rock, I suppose.) As per the norm with High Vampires, Dettlaff can also turn into mist and travel that way, if preferred.

    • TRANSFORMATION — Dettlaff can transform to varying degrees. He can extend razor-sharp claws from each finger that cuts through a human, or anything else in his way, quite easily. His face can change in-tandem with this, in which he receives more monstrous and bat-like features. His truly monstrous form is quite horrendous, honestly, but it grants him the greatest amount of strength and even flight. In this form, he can fly and perform abilities such as summoning bats, or conjuring surreal dream-like traps made of blood. (Unlikely to ever use these traps in-game, for how very vague they are in regards to how they work.)

    • PERSUASION — All Higher Vampires have a special skill, and Dettlaff’s is the ability to command lower vampires to do his bidding, simply by force of will. This is how he puts the entirety of Beauclair in danger by summoning hordes of vampiric creatures to attack the town. This obviously won’t have any effect in Noctium, however.

    • FIGHTING CAPABILITIES — As an aside, Dettlaff is just overall very capable in a conflict! Though the manner of his fighting is unorthodox, he managed to fend off both Regis (a fellow Higher Vampire) and then, in the final boss fight, gave Geralt quite a run for his money until the very end.

      Inventory:
-the clothes on his back, which includes the moth pendant given to him by Regis
